%Semiconductor and microchip processor company %Nvidia ($NVDA) says it is investigating reports that its latest graphics card is causing power cables to melt inside personal computers (PCs).
Social-media users posted photos online showing damage to the cable used to power the Nvidia %RTX4090 graphics card, which was officially launched last month (October).
Users claim the graphics card, which costs more than $1,500 U.S., melted the adapter that was supplied in the box.
“We continue to investigate the reports,” said Nvidia, adding that it remains “committed to supporting our customers.”
The graphics card is the most powerful ever produced by Nvidia. However, some reviews say the card might be too powerful as it draws 450 watts of power, about half the amount used by a microwave oven.
The RTX 4090 graphics card enables PC gamers to play the latest video games at the highest possible speeds and in 4K high-definition resolution.
For this reason, the new graphics card has proven to be extremely popular among gamers, selling out on Nvidia’s website within 10 minutes of its October launch.
However, some online posts criticize Nvidia, saying the company has created a fire hazard in its quest to create a more powerful graphics card and drive sales.
Nvidia’s stock is down 45% this year and trading at $166.66 U.S. per share.
