Google plans to merge Waze’s 500+ employees with its Maps group, starting on December 9, amid pressure to streamline operations and cut costs, The Wall Street Journal’s Miles Kruppa reports. Waze will remain a standalone service and its CEO, Neha Parikh, plans to leave, according to a company spokeswoman. Google does not plan to conduct any layoffs as part of the reshuffle, the spokeswoman adds. “Google remains deeply committed to Waze’s unique brand, its beloved app and its thriving community of volunteers and users,” the spokeswoman said in a statement.
