Asia-Pacific markets largely fell on Thursday as Wall Street digested the latest ADP private payrolls report, which showed slowing job growth in March.
In Japan, the Nikkei 225 dropped 340.63 points, or 1.2%, to 27,472.63.
In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng Index returned to trading after a holiday with a gain of 56.61 points, or 0.3%, to 20,331.26.
Both Australia and Hong Kong markets will conclude their trading weeks on Thursday, as their markets will be closed for a holiday on Friday.

In Shanghai, the CSI 300 faded 6.46 points, or 0.2%, to 4,096.64.
In Singapore, the Straits Times faltered 18.39 points, or 0.6%, to 3,300.48.
In Korea, the Kospi lost 35.98 points, or 1.4%, to 2,459.23.
In New Zealand, the NZX 50 changed direction and poked up 3.25 points to 11,870.08.
In Australia, the ASX 200 fell 18.23 points, or 0.3%, to 7,218.98.
