%Apple ($AAPL) has unveiled a new virtual reality (VR) headset called the %VisionPro that it plans to begin selling in early 2024 bundled with the Disney+ ($DIS) streaming service.
Apple executives introduced the Vision Pro headset at the company’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference, and said it will retail for $3,499 U.S.
The new headset will come bundled with the Disney+ streaming service from the outset, the two companies announced at the conference.
Apple and %Disney have a long-standing relationship. Current Disney CEO Bob Iger and Apple co-founder Steve Jobs were close friends.
In addition to watching movies and television shows on Disney+, users of the Vision Pro can use their eyes and hands to navigate through apps and search for items with their voices.
Consumers will also be able to watch movies in 3D, store and view their photographs and videos, and play video games on the Vision Pro headset.
The headset can also host videoconferences through apps such as Microsoft Teams. The
Vision Pro runs on visionOS, a new platform designed specifically for the headset.
Apple unveiled other products at its developer conference, including a 15-inch MacBook Air laptop computer and iOS 17 for the iPhone.
Apple’s stock has gained 26% in the last 12 months to trade at $183.58 U.S. per share. Disney’s share price has declined 16% over the past year to $91 U.S.
