%Apple ($AAPL) is issuing an update to its iPhone 12 software for users in Europe after regulators in France ordered sales halted over radiation concerns.
France’s National Frequency Agency (ANFR) had ordered an immediate withdrawal of the iPhone 12 from the French marketplace, saying it exceeded European radiation exposure limits.
The regulator also said that, for 2020 model iPhones already in use, Apple must take “all necessary corrective measures” to address the radiation concerns or it would recall the smartphones.
Apple has said that the suspension of sales in France is due to a testing protocol used by the French regulator and not a safety issue.
The consumer electronics company has said repeatedly that all its iPhones are safe to use and do not expose people to unsafe levels of radiation.
For its part, the French regulator has said that it plans to rapidly test the iPhone 12 update in hopes that it will bring the device into line with European standards, and that, if it does, iPhone 12 sales will resume as normal.
The sales suspension in France came on the same day that Apple unveiled the iPhone 15, its newest version of its iconic smartphone, at its annual product launch event in California.
Apple’s stock has risen 13% over the last 12 months and currently trades at $175.01 U.S. per share.
