Apple’s Product Design Chief To Leave Company

Apple’s (AAPL) product design chief, who’s responsible for the look and feel of the company’s iPhone and Apple Watch devices, is stepping down, according to multiple media reports.

Tang Tan is leaving Apple in February 2024 in the latest shake-up among the executive ranks at Apple.

Richard Dinh, currently Tan’s top subordinate, will takeover as head of iPhone product design, while Kate Bergeron, an executive responsible for the MacBook computer, will become head of design for the Apple Watch.

The iPhone and Apple Watch are central to Apple’s business, accounting for over half of the company’s $383.3 billion U.S. in sales during 2022.

Tan also was responsible for the design of accessories such as AirPods. That group is being relocated under Matthew Costello, who’s in charge of Apple’s HomePod smart speaker.

Tan is the second senior executive to leave Apple in recent weeks. Steve Hotelling, vice-president in charge of hardware technologies such as Touch ID, has announced his retirement.

Apple has struggled with consistent leadership in its product design group since longtime, award-winning designer Jony Ive left the company in 2019.

The stock of Apple has risen 57% in 2023 and currently trades at $195.71 U.S. per share.
