Apple (AAPL) is no longer in talks to participate in an OpenAI funding round that is expected to raise as much as $6.5B, The Wall Street Journal’s Tom Dotan and Berber Jin reported on Friday. Microsoft (MSFT) and Nvidia (NVDA) have also been in talks to participate in the round, with Microsoft expected to invest around $1B, adding to the $13B it has already put into the company, according to people familiar with the matter. Venture-capital firm Thrive Capital is leading the round and putting in around $1B, the report indicates, adding that OpenAI is in the process of overhauling its corporate structure from a nonprofit into a for-profit company.
