Porsche Recalls 27,000 Electric Vehicles Over Battery Risk

Porsche, a division of automotive giant Volkswagen (VLKAF), is recalling 27,527 electric vehicles in the U.S.

The recall is due to concerns that the batteries in the electric sedans may short circuit and potentially cause fires.

The recall was ordered by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in the U.S. following an investigation into the battery issue at Porsche.

The recall impacts Porsche’s 2021-2024 Taycan fully electric models, said the NHTSA in a news release. “A short circuit in a high-voltage battery increases the risk of a fire,” said the regulator.

Porsche said in a separate statement that it plans to have the batteries fixed at its U.S. dealerships, which will install diagnostic software and perform free repairs on the vehicles.

Impacted owners will be notified by email and/or mail, said Porsche.

The stock of Volkswagen has declined 13% over the last 12 months to currently trade at Euros 92.14 (Cdn$138.06) per share.
