A protest group has launched a new effort urging Macy’s to part ways with Donald Trump. Several mobile billboards on trucks have been seen circling the store’s corporate headquarters in Cincinnati, Ohio as well as near their flagship store in New York City.
The protest group, centered around a MoveOn.org petition, claims that Trump has made racist and sexist statements and is damaging the beloved retail brand. The signs read: “Bring back the old Macy’s. Dump Trump.”
“There is a gap between what Macy’s brand is and what Donald Trump’s brand is,” protest organizer Angelo Carusone tells The Hollywood Reporter. “Macy’s says they are a cut above the rest. They appeal to everyone’s nostalgia. They inject themselves into our culture and our holidays. We don’t think [Trump] represents the values they espouse.”
Thus far Macy’s says they have no plans to cut products related to Trump, saying: “Macy’s marketing and merchandise offerings are not representative of any political position.”
