Howard Stringer, Chairman and former CEO of Sony Corp. (SNE: Quote) Friday announced his retirement in a speech to the Japan Society in New York, said reports.
Stringer said he intends to step down at company’s annual shareholder meeting to be held in June.
Stringer joined Sony as president of the company’s US operational unit and was later appointed as chairman and CEO in 2005.
Born in Cardiff, Wales, Stringer has also garnered a vast experience as a journalist, producer and senior executive at CBS. He has won nine Emmys for various programs including, The Rockefellers, The Palestinians, The CIA’s Secret Army etc.
Stringer assumed the role of President of CBS News in 1986 and was later promoted to President of CBS Inc.
Stringer will continue to serve as chairman of the American Film Institute. Meanwhile, the Tokyo-based company, will decide on Stringer’s successor after June.
