Apple Inc. (AAPL: Quote) has asked the U.S. appeals court in Washington to resurrect the patent-infringement claims filed against Motorola Mobility, presently a unit of Google Inc. (GOOG: Quote), Bloomberg said on Friday.
The iPhone, iPad maker had earlier filed the lawsuit claiming that Motorola had copied its touch-screen technology used in mobile phones. The case involved a number of Motorola’s phones including Droid, Droid 2, Droid X, Cliq, Backflip etc.
According to reports, the smartphone giant is also appealing a U.S. International Trade Commission decision relating to multi-touch transparent screens.
The defendants however, claim that the algorithm used in Apple multi-touch invention is very similar to that of SmartSkin, a product previously manufactured by Sony Corp.
According to an analyst research, Motorola Mobility had 4 percent of the U.S. smartphone market in the fourth quarter, while Apple owned 45 percent.
