Slovenia’s Inflation Slows, Retail Sales Fall

Slovenia’s annual inflation weakened in March after rising in the previous month, the statistical office said Friday.

Inflation as per the consumer price index dropped to 2 percent in March from 2.7 percent in February. In January, the rate of inflation was 2.4 percent. The last time inflation eased to the current levels was in December 2011.

The consumer price index increased 0.3 percent compared to February, when it advanced by 0.8 percent, the agency said.

At the same time, the harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP) increased 2.2 percent annually in March. Month-on-month, the HICP increased by 0.3 percent.

Separately, the agency said Slovenia’s retail sales decreased 2 percent sequentially in February. Excluding automotive fuel, retail sales dropped by 1.1 percent. Year-on-year, the volume of retail sales dropped 3.6 percent in February, the agency said.
