Is Baidu (BIDU, quote) following Google (GOOG, quote) step by step? If you’re China’s dominant search engine why not closely mirror the evolution of the world’s leader and first mover, Google?
Google’s transition from search to mobile to content is still in progress but arguably with plenty of success. As Baidu has seen slower growth in the last 6-8qtrs from search the stock has wilted.
But moves like last week’s buy of PPS, an internet TV and video business bolster Baidu’s move into online content.
There is talk that Baidu iQiyi.com video site will look to IPO soon. This clearly is putting some life into the stock as few can question whether the company has the resources or power to consolidate this p art of the market in greater China and the region.
