In the recent round of 13F filings, Appaloosa Management Lp, managed by David Tepper reported its equity portfolio as at the end of last year. The total value of the portfolio increased to$7.98 billion, from $6.28 billion disclosed at the end of the third quarter.
In this piece, we have selected five companies, in which the fund holds the largest stakes in terms of value.
The first on the list is Citigroup Inc (NYSE:C), a diversified financial services holding company, in which Appaloosa disclosed a $504.17 million stake, which amasses 9.68 million shares. The value of the holding in the previous quarter was $472.18 million.
The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company (NASDAQ:GT), a manufacturer of tires, comes in next, Appaloosa owning over 12.15 million shares, worth $289.90 million. The holding in this company was trimmed from 18.84 million shares held in the previous quarter.
In Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) Appaloosa disclosed ownership of over 236,709 shares, with a reported value of $265.28 million. The holding was raised from 144,909 shares held at the end of the previous quarter.
The fourth-largest holding in Appaloosa’s equity portfolio is represented by HCA Holdings Inc (NYSE:HCA), whose affiliates operate hospitals and health care entities. The fund revealed owning 5.10 million shares, up from 4.57 million shares held earlier at the end of the third quarter. The value of the holding is $243.39 million.
And the last on our list of the top five picks is United Continental Holdings Inc (NYSE:UAL), which transports people and cargo through its mainline operations. In United Continental the fund trimmed its stake to 6.05 million shares, from 8.52 million shares held at the end of the third quarter. The value of the holding also decreased to $228.77 million from $261.77 million in the previous quarter.
