Is This Stock the Next Tesla?

Gores Metropoulus (GMHI) is an acquisition company sponsored by the global investment firm The Gores Group. The stock was in focus earlier this week on reports Luminar, a leader in the development of autonomous car technology, has entered an agreement to merge with Gores Metropoulos. The combined company will retain the name Luminar Technologies and trade under the ticker LAZR.

News of the merger sparked a surge of interest in GMHI and the stock was among the most researched by retail investors earlier this week, as this little-known name moved into the spotlight and investors tried to assess whether the new combined company has the potential of becoming another Tesla (TSLA). Cancer Genetics (CGIX) and Viveve Medical (VIVE) have seen a notable surge in traffic from retail investors as well, while gas production, furniture stores, and catalog stores are trending higher among industry groups.

Meanwhile, Tonix Pharmaceuticals (TNXP)—a smallcap biotech name that has doubled in value since June—has seen the greatest increase in interest among financial advisors in recent days. Salesforce (CRM) also saw an uptick in interest from FAs heading into this week’s blowout earnings report. Lastly, ag stocks, broadcasting, and healthcare REITs are the industry groups seeing the greatest increase in engagement among advisors.

Please find below the rankings of stocks that saw notable jumps in interest among retail investors and financial advisors, followed by the industry groups that are trending this week as well.
