Retail Investors Eye Cubic as a Legit Takeover Candidate

Shares of Cubic Corp. rallied 34.5% and interest in the ticker by retail investors surged Monday on reports the company implemented a limited-duration shareholder rights plan in response to Elliott Management’s “undisclosed, rapid stock accumulation and expression of desire to acquire company.” Investors were actively reading relevant information on Cubic early in the trading week to evaluate the potential for a corporate buyout that could send shares even higher. Then, on Wednesday, Reuters reported that Elliott and Veritas Capital could make a joint bid for the company, while Truist analysts suggested that a buyout could be in the $80-85 range, or a 42-51% premium to the current price of $56.3 per share.

As buyout speculation lifted shares, Cubic earned the top spot for retail investor traffic surge from a week ago.
