The Week Ahead: FAANG Earnings and Elon Takes Center Stage

It was the Elon Musk news no one expected.

No, it wasn’t another DOGE coin plug.

The long-running comedy variety show, Saturday Night Live announced Musk will be in the hosting slot, usually reserved for comics or actors.

At first, the crossover seemed like a bad joke, but it was in fact real.

According to two tweets Musk sent on Saturday night he said, “Am hosting Saturday Night Live May 8th… Let’s find out just how live Saturday Night Live really is…”

Shock value aside, why would we care about a billionaire inventor/entrepreneur testing out his improv comedy chops on national television?

Because TSLA along with the FAANG stocks will be reporting out earnings this week.

One BofA analyst raised a red flag about these upcoming earnings stating if earnings come in as a miss this could really rock the markets.

He’s not wrong: FAANG stocks and companies like TSLA that are “tech adjacent”  represent 15% of the S&P 500. A sector-wide miss could spell real trouble for the markets as well as the US economy.

Is our boy Elon hosting SNL to detract from potential bad news on earnings?

Will geopolitical strife and chip manufacturing backups impact the bottom lines of the tech giants reporting?
