%ElonMusk now has more than 100 million %Twitter ($TWTR) followers.
Musk has become only the sixth user of the social media platform to reach the 100 million milestone. Musk currently has a total of 100,059,886 followers on Twitter.
The five other accounts to have hit the 100 million follower mark include former U.S. President Barack Obama, as well as singers Rihanna, Katy Perry and Justin Bieber, and professional soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo.
Surpassing the 100 million mark comes as Musk is trying to buy Twitter for $44 billion U.S. and take the company private. With a net worth estimated at more than $250 billion U.S., Musk, who is the chief executive officer of both %Tesla ($TSLA) and privately held SpaceX, is widely considered to be the richest person in the world.
Unlike many chief executives, Musk is an active and direct user of Twitter, frequently using the platform to engage and argue with his followers and other well-known personalities.
Somewhat ironically, Musk hit the 100 million follower mark after not tweeting for nearly a week. His last post that wasn’t a reply to someone else was on June 21 and was a photo showing gas priced at $7.11 at a 7-Eleven store.
The previous day (June 20), Musk posted a series of tweets where he extolled his love of cheese.
Twitter stock is down 8% year to date at $39.19 U.S. a share.
