%Tesla ($TSLA) has launched a new software update that enables its electric vehicles to scan roads for potholes and adjust the suspension to avoid damage from them.
Tesla owners can activate the new %PotholeScanning feature by downloading the company’s latest software update and selecting “Comfort” under the Adaptive Suspension Damping setting.
However, Tesla is warning that its newest feature is not available everywhere and likely won’t spot every pothole and road crack.
“This adjustment may occur at various locations, subject to availability, as the vehicle downloads rough road map data generated by Tesla cars,” the Austin, Texas-based company said in a news release.
The software update also doesn’t work with Tesla’s autopilot or self-driving mode, meaning vehicles won’t try to steer around or avoid road damage when driving themselves.
Tesla chief executive Elon Musk has said that Tesla is working on a system that uses three-dimensional (3D) labeling to create pothole maps, but that feature is still under development.
The latest update also includes a green light chime to help combat driver distraction and fatigue, Tesla said. The green light feature only works with vehicles that are equipped with Tesla’s self-driving computer.
Tesla stock is down 43% this year at $681.79 U.S. a share.
