The British government is developing a %DroneSuperhighway aimed at connecting towns and cities across the United Kingdom.
Drones will be used on a new 164-mile %SkywayProject that will be created as part of a £273 million (US$327 million) funding initiative for England’s aerospace sector, according to the government.
Within two years, drones will be used to deliver everything from mail to medications from Scotland in the north to communities in southern England.
The drone superhighway is expected to be announced by government officials at the Farnborough International Airshow taking place this week.
The drone Skyway will connect the airspace above Reading, Oxford, Milton Keynes, Cambridge, Coventry, and Rugby by mid-2024. Drones will also be used to deliver mail and medicine to remote communities such as the Isles of Scilly.
The government says the drone Superhighway will be overseen by Britain’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to ensure safety.
Government research has shown that people are more likely to accept a drone flying overhead if they know it is providing an important service such as delivering medicine.
