Automotive sales in Canada during 2022 totaled 1.49 million vehicles, a 9% decline from 2021 and the lowest annual sales level since 2009, according to data from DesRosiers Automotive Consultants.
Toronto-based DesRosiers said that automotive sales across Canada were uneven over the last year and negatively impacted by global supply chain and inventory problems.
According to DesRosiers’ data, the Ford Motor Company (F) had the highest motor vehicle sales in Canada during 2022, followed by General Motors (GM) and Toyota (TM).
DesRosiers said that the outlook for vehicle sales in 2023 remains unclear as signs indicate the Canadian economy is slowing down.
Despite the decline in 2022, vehicle sales did rise 5.5% in December compared with a year earlier.
DesRosiers Automotive Consultants estimates that 109,000 vehicles were sold in Canada during December, compared with 103,000 vehicle sales in the same month of 2021.
